Welcome to the September issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. While still technically summer, it seems that we are being tempted by a change of season that is welcomed by many. Those cool, crisp mornings and warm afternoons make this time of year my absolute favorite. Most of us are wrapping up vacations, sending the kids back to school, or returning to school ourselves while trying to hang onto those last days of summer. Enjoy it while you can; I’m sure we will discuss snow events in the all-too-near future.

This month’s issue features a fascinating history as well as a modern view of drones. Originally developed and used in war, the current applications are proving useful in markets we had never considered. We are happy to further introduce you to Beverly Holder, a contributor at Metropolitan Airport News and an FAA-certified drone pilot. Beverly is often at JFK Airport, documenting the progress of the construction site with her drones. Beverly is a Queens local who took a chance on herself, and it’s paying off. It’s a reminder that sometimes we have to get uncomfortable and think outside the box. Believe in yourself and connect with like-minded people, remain forever curious, and trust your instincts even if you can’t imagine how the story ends.

The Fall is a busy time for events throughout the airports. There are many networking events and ‘Meet The Prime’ events where local opportunities are shared with the business community. Always stay up to date with the Metropolitan Airport News calendar. If you have an event that you would like to include, let us know. This calendar is the live calendar for the airport community. Check it often for events that are of interest to you.

This September marks the 23rd anniversary of September 11th. At JFK, LGA, and EWR, there are permanent 9/11 memorials. Solemn remembrance events will occur at these locations and throughout our local communities. Even if you don’t make it to a memorial event, I’m sure you will take a moment to reflect on where you were that fateful day. As a country, we remember the horror of all of those lives lost; we can only imagine what the families have endured these past 23 years without their loved ones; we thank and respect the brave first responders and the countless service members who have protected us since that day. Most of all, together united as Americans, we will never forget.

I hope you enjoy the issue. If you would like to connect with us to offer ideas, share happenings, or just introduce yourself, please email info@magical-varahamihira.67-43-13-101.plesk.page. We look forward to hearing from you.

I’ll see you around the airports!
