Welcome to the May issue of Metropolitan Airport News.
I hope you are experiencing the energy of renewal that springtime brings. The birds are really busy, plants and trees are coming alive again, longer days, and everyone is moving quickly to prepare for a busy travel season.
In addition to the many construction and redevelopment projects at all of our airports, most airport businesses are preparing for increased activity and operations. That means we are busy with facility renovations, servicing equipment, hiring new employees, cleaning out the old, and getting ready for the new!
As Benjamin Franklin famously said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” So take the time to look around and see what you can do to ensure your company and your teams are prepared for what will surely be the best travel season we have experienced in quite a while.
I also encourage you to take a moment to appreciate the beauty found at our airports. To help you along, this month’s feature, Reflections of Time & Place, focuses on the public art installations on display at LGA and EWR airports.
As a traveler, I get so stressed; I want to get my family to our departure gate, maybe visit a concession stand, buy some souvenirs, and of course, grab snacks. So I zoom through the terminal to get to my gate early and relax before the onboarding process begins. However, as an airport worker, I can pause momentarily and admire the beauty found at our airports.
The artwork on display is incredibly thoughtful and is not accidental. Each piece has been carefully curated to connect with passengers and airport workers and serve to calm, inspire, inform, and distract from travel stress. As a traveler, I find the fountain at Terminal B LGA as entertaining as it is mesmerizing.
I hope you come away with a greater appreciation for all the thoughtful attention that went into planning these beautiful installations and the artists that interpreted the space for our enjoyment.
