Civil Air Patrol – U.S. Air Force Auxillary

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) was founded on December 1, 1941, to mobilize the nation’s civilian aviation resources for national defense service. Since its earliest days, this vigilant organization of citizen Airmen has been committed to service to the United States and evolved into a premier public service organization that carries out emergency service missions when needed in the air and on the ground. 

As a Total Force partner and Auxiliary of the U.S.A.F, the Civil Air Patrol is there to search for and find the lost, provide comfort in times of disaster, and work to keep the homeland safe. With its membership of 60,000 who devote their time, energy, and expertise toward the well-being of their communities, the organization also promotes aviation and related fields through aerospace/STEM education, helping to shape future leaders through CAP’s cadet program.

The CAP’s 83-year legacy of service has maintained its commitment to nearly 1,500 communities nationwide. As part of First Air Force Combat Command, the 60,000-member organization has over 560 aircraft and over 1,000 ground vehicles nationally. 

The CAP Falcon Squadron is a Senior Member unit (adults only) based at JFK International Airport. As volunteers for the U.S.A.F. Auxiliary-Civil Air Patrol, the Falcon Squadron serves our nation, state, city, and local communities by performing missions for the CAP in the area of Air Search and Rescue, Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs. 

As a large organization, the CAP offers many opportunities to serve and learn.  Civil Air Patrol volunteers have the choice of how they can best serve the CAP by choosing from the many areas of service that they most prefer.

Civil Air Patrol members do not have to be pilots, but many Falcon Squadron members are. While members are not required to fly, should they be interested in flying, they have that opportunity with CAP Falcon Squadron.
