Civil Air Patrol Honoring Long Island Veterans With Wreaths Across America

Metropolitan Airport NewsBy Metropolitan Airport NewsDecember 15, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) continues its annual tradition of partnering with Wreaths Across America to pay homage to over 200,000 veterans and family members interred at Long Island National Cemetery (LINC). CAP’s Long Island Senior Squadron (LISS) Volunteers participated in the Wreaths Across America wreath laying at LINC on Saturday, December 14.

Last year, more than three million wreaths were laid through Wreaths Across America nationally at over 4,000 locations. LISS joined CAP squadrons nationwide in gaining sponsorships and laying wreaths at local cemeteries.

“While sponsoring a wreath is a relatively easy thing to do, the impact it makes is more far-reaching than one would expect,” commented LISS Commander Lt Col Michael Gieraltowski. “Aside from the financial support the sponsorship provides for CAP activities, it affords the opportunity for our senior and cadet members to recognize and remember our deceased veterans and reflect on the sacrifices so many have made in the defense of our country and values,” continued the US Army and New York Army National Guard veteran.

“The wreath laying is a meaningful and very emotional event for our squadron each year.”
Individuals or businesses interested in sponsoring wreaths laid this year at LINC can visit the LISS Wreaths Across America homepage. Sponsorships can be made to specific graves if requested.
